I was mowing the lawn a while ago, and it appears that I just can’t keep from thinking and drawing analogies. Do you know how much praying is like using a lawn mower? Consider this:

Mowing Prayer
If the mower is too high above the grass, you won’t achieve anything. If you’re not getting close to what you’re praying for, you aren’t going to achieve anything.
If the mower is too close to the ground, you’re going to destroy your blade before the job is done. If you’re getting bogged down in the detail in prayer, you’re not going to achieve what you need to.
If the mower is going too slowly, the grass won’t get cut. If you’re not going to put the effort into prayer, you’re not going to achieve anything.
If the mower is going too fast, it makes an awful lot of noise, and you’ll run out of fuel. If you go flat out in prayer using your own resources, you’re going make an awful lot of noise, and you’re going to burn out.
If you only mow half your lawn, your lawn is going to look strange. If you’re not praying for everything you need to, your life is going to look strange.
If your lawn is too big, you’re never going to finish, and you should have help. If you’re praying for the salvation of an entire nation, get help.
If you just ramble over your lawn with the mower, your lawn is going to look strange. If you pray without direction, there is no guarantee that you’re going to achieve anything.
If you’re blind, get a guide. Even if you can see the spiritual realm, get a guide. He’s the Holy Spirit.
